Public Transportation and Taxis

HSL - Public transportation in Helsinki

HSL provides an excellent public transportation system consisting of buses, trams, metros, local railways and ferry services. With the same ticket you can access the whole transportation system and transfer from one vehicle to another.

The HSL area is divided into four zones, identified by the letters A, B, C and D, spreading out from the center of Helsinki. Ticket prices are based on the distance traveled, i.e. on the distance from the center of Helsinki. Tickets for only one zone are not available, the tickets consist of at least two zones (e.g. AB, BC, ABC etc.).

Single tickets can be purchased from ticket machines, R-kiosks and other HSL sales points or by using HSL mobile application. Single tickets are valid for certain time. If you are planning to use a bus you can also buy your ticket from the driver. Please be aware that credit and debit cards are not accepted on buses. To read more about single tickets, click here.

Day tickets are available for unlimited use on public transportation for 1-7 days. They can be purchased from ticket machines, from Tourist Information at Helsinki Airport Terminal 2A (1-3 days) or from the Helsinki City Transport service point in the Central Railway Station.
